Vegas can move up from the second Wild Card spot in the Western Conference to the first Wild Card spot with a win tonight and a win in their regular season finale against the Anaheim Ducks. Vegas trails the Nashville Predators by three points for that spot in the standings, which would theoretically mean a less daunting first round matchup for Vegas. Playing two of the worst teams in the NHL to close out their regular season, we expect the Knights to get the job done, starting with a convincing victory over the Blackhawks tonight.
Vegas should be able to cover the puckline as a home favorite in this contest, against a Blackhawks team that has the second-worst goal differential in the NHL on the year. Chicago's goal differential is -108, making them just one of two teams in the league with a goal difference of -100 or worse. The other team in that club is the San Jose Sharks, who have also been horrid this year. Look for Vegas to take advantage of their weak schedule late in the season with a win by two or more goals in this matchup.
